University of Maryland College Park Physical Sciences Complex
AMT worked with the university and the design team to create a sustainable site design for this $90 million academic facility and prepared documentation for LEED certification with the United States Green Building Council.
The University of Maryland has developed a new, state-of-the-art, $90 million academic and research facility to house its physics and astronomy departments as well as its Institute for Physical Sciences and Technology. AMT worked closely with the university and with the design team to develop a sustainable site design that meets or exceeds all university and state requirements and design standards. We coordinated with state and local agencies for design and permitting and prepared LEED documentation for certification with the United States Green Building Council. LEED-Silver certification is anticipated for this project which was completed in late 2012.
Designers included a ground-level, open-air plaza beneath a section of the building to promote pedestrian circulation, as well as a groundwater pump system for the building plumbing service, extensive utility design and relocation and detailed construction phasing to minimize disruption to university operations.
