Woodrow Wilson Bridge
AMT is providing construction inspection and documentation on the project. We are also performing materials testing, assuring proper traffic controls, and providing Maryland Department of the Environment and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise compliance and site manager training on this massive $2.5 billion project.
The Woodrow Wilson Bridge over the Potomac River was carrying nearly three times more traffic than it was designed to handle between Maryland and Virginia on the Capital Beltway. Its traffic load at the beginning of the project was upwards of 190,000 vehicles per day and projected to increase to 300,000 by 2020. It was a top transportation initiative in the Washington, D.C region. In a massive $2.5 billion bridge replacement, the GEC improved traffic flow on the beltway by adding two lanes in each direction, mass transit lanes and by reconstructing two interchanges on each side of the bridge. It also improved flow on the local streets with connections to the beltway.
AMT provided Potomac Crossing Consultants with construction inspection and documentation on the project. We also performed materials testing, assuring proper traffic controls, administrative support and providing stormwater management for Maryland Department of the Environment compliance and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program compliance and site manager training.
The result is a beautiful showpiece bridge with the capacity to handle all of the traffic the D.C. region can give it.
