Where We Work – Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania

In this installment of “Where we Work,” we visit the location of one of AMT’s newer offices, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.  Mechanicsburg is a collection of townships named for the mechanics who made and repaired wagons in the early 1800s and continues as a transportation hub today through rail and roadway. Located in central Pennsylvania, Mechanicsburg is within the Metropolitan Statistical Area of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s state capital.

The region is home to the Hershey Bears, a hockey farm team for the Washington Capitals, and the Harrisburg Senators minor league baseball affiliate of the Washington Nationals. It is also close enough to the larger cities to have fans of the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia teams. It even has fans of the Baltimore and Washington teams.

It is home to Jubilee Day, which boasts the largest and longest-running one-day street fair on the East Coast. On this day, Mechanicsburg’s population grows from about 9,000 to 60,000. On New Year’s Eve, while New York is dropping millions of dollars worth of crystal and Harrisburg drops a strawberry, Mechanicsburg stays true to its roots and drops a wrench!

A variety of notable individuals hail from Mechanicsburg including several professional athletes, rockers, thespians and Stacey Williams, Sports Illustrated supermodel.

Mechanicsburg works to keep its historic, small town, hometown feel. It maintains a Historical Architectural Review Board which advises the Borough Council on applications in historic areas.

And if Donnie Cummins ever visits, he might want to check out the Williams Grove Speedway.
