WVDOT Roadway Departure Assessment, Statewide, WV (I-64 Bridge)
AMT provided a detailed assessment and review of nearly 300 miles of rural primary roadways in Districts Three and Six to develop counter- measures to reduce the occurrence of roadway departure crashes that lead to serious injuries and fatalities. Project involves extensive review of crash records, development of a signing condition inventory, development of a report outlining proposed countermeasures, creation of a video log, and the preparation of contract documents for implementation.
AMT assessed each horizontal curve for the 300 miles of rural roadway to ensure compliance with the MUTCD for horizontal curve signing standards. Contract plans are being developed to implement safety improvements including paved shoulders, high friction pavement, guardrail installation, horizontal curve signing, centerline and edgeline rumble strips, and roadside hazard elimination.
The goal of this project is to generate a tangible reduction in the occurrence of roadway departure crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
