AMT provided analysis and final design of parking and roadway improvements associated with the new University of Maryland Arena and supporting facilities including tennis courts, athletic fields, softball stadium, a maintenance yard, and parking facilities within the University of Maryland College Park Campus.
AMT investigated the condition of existing paved areas to determine its usefulness. Design plans were prepared for overlay conditions, widenings, reconstruction and new paved areas.
AMT prepared designs for: 900 spaces of new or reconstructed parking lots; Terrapin Trail Lane a new 2,000 LF access roadway consisting of a two lane rural section; widening and realignment of Paint Branch Drive for over 3,000 LF of existing roadways to eliminate substandard horizontal curves and to provide the needed capacities; over 5,000 LF of shoulder and roadway improvements at MD Route 193 including new left turn lanes and acceleration and deceleration lanes to improve traffic flow; adding curb/gutter, sidewalks, and planting strips to various roadway sections; new lighting plans for the North Campus area; and stormwater management, erosion and sediment control plans
AMT provided MOT plans to maintain pedestrian and vehicular traffic thru the construction area. Paint Branch Drive was constructed in 5 phases to accommodate existing traffic and only required minimal shutdowns which were scheduled during University breaks and recess times. A phased parking allocation plan was prepared to ensure adequate parking spaces were maintained through the construction period.
