AMT Celebrates Engineers Week with Ducks!

On Saturday, February 22, AMT staff participated in Discover Engineering Family Day at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. as part of Engineers Week 2014. This year, the AMT team created a display to demonstrate Manning’s Equation which predicts flow velocities based on the surface roughness in the drainage channel. They did this by racing rubber ducks down three channels with varying surfaces—a smooth channel, a channel with tape on the bottom and a channel with pebbles glued to the bottom. The results were a great deal of fun and hopefully some learning about the principle behind the equation.
