AMT is pleased to announce that Matthew Ernest, PE, LEED AP and Aaron Smith, PE, LEED AP have been promoted to Directors of Site/Civil Engineering. In their new roles, Matt and Aaron will collaborate with AMT’s Corporate Officers, Associates, and regional Office Leads to reinforce and expand AMT’s Site/Civil Engineering practice area. Together, they will continue to drive business development efforts, engage in client management, and provide dynamic leadership that will advance our talented engineering staff.
Matt will focus his efforts on state and federal market sector clients and projects. Since beginning his career with AMT 22 years ago, Matt has provided significant contributions in both design and management for hundreds of state and federal client projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region totaling approximately $2 billion in construction costs. Some of his notable projects include the $330 million United States Census Bureau Headquarters and the $125 million Xfinity Center and North Campus Development at the University of Maryland College Park. Matt earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering Technology from the University of Pittsburgh and is a certified LEED Accredited Professional.
Aaron will focus his efforts on municipal, local, and private market sector clients and projects. Much of Aaron’s success in project delivery and client collaboration throughout his 17 years with AMT has been driven by his desire to work on projects that directly impact communities, whether it be a neighborhood park, library, faith-based organization, or public or private school. His expansive project experience includes projects as large as the 176,000 SF expansion and renovation of the H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse in Washington, DC and 107,000 SF expansion of the Kaiser Permanents medical office building in Largo, MD, to minor site improvements for parks and schools as part of on-call contracts throughout MD, DC, and VA. Aaron earned his M.E. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland and his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He is a certified LEED Accredited Professional.
“Through their diverse backgrounds and exceptional leadership in site/civil engineering, Aaron and Matt have developed a wide variety of clients in education, parks and recreation, healthcare, private development, federal, state, and municipal markets, and many others,” said AMT Vice President Max Kantzer, PE, LEED AP. “Their combined leadership of AMT’s Site/Civil Group will allow us to expand this practice area to all of our regional offices.”
