Blue Ridge Road Improvements
Raleigh, NC
Blue Ridge Road bicycle and pedestrian improvements were key for the success in City of Raleigh which retained AMT to produce plans and contract documents for Blue Ridge Road from Trinity Road to just north of Reedy Creek Road in Raleigh, NC. The objective of this project is to fill bicycle facility and sidewalk gaps along this one mile stretch of roadway. The Blue Ridge Road improvement project will include concepts to provide pedestrian and bicycle facilities over Wade Avenue to improve connectivity in the corridor between the NCSU Biomedical Campus, State Fairgrounds, Arena Complex, NC Museum of Art, and Reedy Creek Greenway.
The project will be completed in two phases:
- Phase 1: Develop design concepts for pedestrian and bicycle facilities in the corridor, including right-of-way and construction estimates, project delivery schedules, and potential funding sources. Public involvement will be critical during this phase as the public input will dictate the selection of a preferred alternative.
- Phase 2: Carry forward a recommended alternative through final design to construction/bid documents. This includes but is not limited to location surveys, subsurface utility engineering, geotechnical services, roadway/sidewalk design, bridge design, water resources design (including storm water, erosion control, BMP investigations/design), traffic analyses, traffic management, signing and delineation, signal design, utility design, utility coordination, right of way/easement plats, and bidding/contract documentation services
Plans feature multi use paths, sidewalks, a pedestrian bridge over Wade Avenue and a greenway connection as well as a cycle track intersection design for a major intersection at the entrance to the NC Art Museum. Pedestrian safety accommodations are also made at various intersections and landscape enhancements define the character of the corridor.
