Buffalo Creek Pedestrian-Bicycle Bridge and Trail Connection, Farmville, VA
AMT designed and prepared construction documents for the single-span, 85’-long bicycle/pedestrian bridge, spanning the Buffalo Creek. This project was designed in conjunction with the VDOT Lynchburg District office, which performed the technical review.
The superstructure consisted of prestressed concrete bulb-T beams, PCBT-37, following VDOT Standards, for durability in the humid creek environment. The abutments were designed as jointless/integral abutments with “U” type wrap-around wingwalls. A moment relief hinge at the top of pile cap was detailed, per the most recent VDOT guidelines. VDOT BR27 bicycle/pedestrian type railing, 54”-high, with a concrete base and steel railings was used on the bridge. Architectural treatment in the form of “Dry Stack” form-liner was incorporated into the concrete base of the railing and the terminal wall. AMT also performed the hydraulic analysis, survey, and environmental clearance for this project.
