WVDOT Coatings Inspection for Dunbar-South Charleston Bridge, Kanawha County, WV
AMT provided bridge coatings inspection for approximately 400,000 sf of steel coating and 120,000 sf of concrete protective coating. The bridge is approximately 1/2 mile in length and crosses the Kanawha River which required coordination with the Coast Guard for operations in the navigation channel. The work was also completed over the Norfolk Southern Railroad and access to the bridge was coordinated with them.
Our inspectors ensured hold point inspections (surface preparation, coating application, coating coverage, and dry film thicknesses) meet the contract and specifications prior to the contractor continuing on the next process. Several streets and Railroad Tracks were also crossed requiring pedestrian access maintenance. Extensive environmental controls and containment systems were provided as well as protection of sensitive mussel ecosystems.
AMT was awarded the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways 2013 Engineering Excellence Award for the Coating Inspection Services Project Specific Category.
