County Courthouse Plaza
Prince George's County, Maryland
AMT created a 1.25-acre pedestrian plaza for Prince George’s County that occupies the space between the County Administration Building and the County Courthouse. The design incorporates historical materials to connect two different architectural elements with a strong central plaza. It also includes public space with seating, outdoor artwork and trees along the alley to reinforce the overall design and create pedestrian-scale spaces. The plaza has been used for outdoor press conferences, concerts and summer festivals as well as day-to-day enjoyment of the employees and visitors of the buildings.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the new plaza sports rain gardens with small weirs designed to move stormwater away from the plaza and into the lawns.
