Darnestown Square Heritage Park
Darnestown, Maryland
When Darnestown acquired a small plot of land that sits next to the grocery store along the main route through town, the citizens of the town expressed the desire for a small park area. AMT refined the approved facilities plan, modeled and developed detailed final designs and prepared the specifications and cost estimates.
Darnestown Square Heritage Park was built as an amenity to Darnestown’s new town center. The historical buildings that once occupied the site are gone, but an unmarked, disused cemetery remains. As the prime consultant on the project, AMT created a design that weaves interpretive panels, sculpture and locally-obtained materials to educate visitors about pre-colonial, early-American and Civil War eras and about the economic forces that shaped the area. The design also features elements of “Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.”
AMT’s professionals refined the approved facilities plan, modeled and developed detailed final designs of all site elements, and prepared the specifications and cost estimates.
The result is a space that the residents have embraced and use regularly.
