DWR Dam Engineering Services
Statewide, VA
Through a statewide term contract, AMT is providing dam safety and related engineering services for Virginia’s Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) properties. Services include probable maximum precipitation (PMP) studies, dam breach inundation studies, spillway capacity, stability, and integrity analyses, PER’s with alternatives analyses, dam break inundation zone (DBIZ) maps, hazard class determination per ACER-11, incremental damage assessment (IDA) studies, emergency action plans (EAP’s), O&M plans, and state permit actions per the impounding structure regulations in Virginia in coordination with the regional dam safety engineers at Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
For dams requiring alterations or significant construction work, AMT is also providing site surveying, environmental permitting, PE dam inspections, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, cost estimating and dam rehabilitation designs, including engineering plans and technical specifications, with public bidding and construction phase support for each built improvement.
Projects have included the Fluvanna Ruritan Dam, Upper Powhatan Lake Dam, Lower Powhatan Lake Dam, Briery Creek Lake Dam, Brunswick Lake Dam, and the King and Queen Fish Hatchery Dams, Designs have involved dam raising, buttressing or improving embankments for slope stability, vinyl sheet pilings, new spillways for increased capacity, concrete spillway inspections and repairs, principal spillway inspections and repairs, low flow drains, staff gages, seepage control with blanket drains and graded filter drains, access improvements, and removing woody vegetation within 25’ of the dam. Our most recent project assignments have been responding to storm damage repairs.
