Glenmont Forest 8” to 12” SEU Water Main Replacement
Montgomery County, MD
AMT designed and prepared contract documents (plans and specifications) for the construction of approximately 4,625 feet of 8-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch water distribution main and 2,900 feet of WHC replacements. The contract was constructed by WSSC’s System Enhancement Unit (SEU) and utilized offset methods of construction for the majority of the length. The design was provided under an accelerated design schedule to meet required deadlines in an agreement between WSSC and Montgomery Count DPW&T regarding repaving of two (2) roadways. The design effort included locations of services and utilities, sequences of construction, joint restraint calculations, hydrant and valve spacing and detailed maintenance of traffic control plans.
Specific services provided include:
- Initial Design Report
- Surveys of key storm drain crossings and utility designation along alignments
- Record drawing acquisition
- Soil investigations (10 pavement cores)
- Test holes (8 total)
- Permits included sediment and erosion control, tree trimming and Montgomery County work in road ways
- Contract completion time estimate
The project operated under an accelerated design schedule of three (3) months to allow for construction of the water mains prior to roadway pavement per WSSC and Montgomery County DPW&T agreements. AMT was in regular contact with both WSSC and Montgomery County personnel and was responsive to review comments and project coordination questions that arose. The County also agreed to expedite reviews that project deadlines were met.
