Montgomery College Water Main

As part of the design and construction of a new Bioscience Education Center at Montgomery College’s Germantown Campus, we provided comprehensive civil engineering design services which included the design of a new 24-inch diameter transmission water main.
In an effort to better meet the demands of the growing bioscience fields and increase student capacity, Montgomery College embarked on a process to upgrade its Germantown campus. A new 127,000 GSF Bioscience Education Center set to be certified LEED Silver certified is part of that process.
AMT was tasked with providing an early rough grading for the 20-acre site to expedite the construction schedule, then on-site water and sewer design, 24-inch transmission water main relocation, storm drainage, site grading and layout, parking lot and roadway design, public roadway design and permitting, a design of a regional stormwater management pond facility for quantity control, bioretention design, erosion control and construction phase services.
For the 24-inch water main, AMT prepared WSSC contract documents to relocate approximately 2,200 linear feet of ductile iron pipe. The tie-in was completed with an eight-hour shut-down, and close coordination between Montgomery College and WSSC was required for the 24-inch transmission main.
Other services we provide for the project included coordination of the relocation with other utilities providers, preparation of right of way relocation documents, subsurface utility locating, and preparation of forest conservation and erosion/sediment control plans.
