NIST Net Zero Research Facility

Gaithersburg, MD

AMT performed civil engineering for site improvement associated with the NIST Net Zero House, including slope work and planting designed to generate points for LEED certification for the structure. Once complete, the house will be used to further research and to test effectiveness of measurement methods and efficiency of energy-saving techniques.

The NIST Net Zero House sits on the 580-acre National Institute of Science and Technology campus which houses 55 buildings in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The 2,700 square-foot house was designed with energy-efficient appliances and design, combined with solar panels that aim to generate as much energy from renewable resources in a year as the house consumes.

AMT performed work for site improvement associated with the house in the form of civil site engineering, some of which includes planting and slope work that will be used to generate points for LEED certification for the structure. Once complete, the house will be used to further research and to test effectiveness of measurement methods and efficiency of energy-saving techniques.

The project has been written up in Ecohome Magazine.
