Stanhope Commons
Raleigh, North Carolina
Stanhope Commons is Raleigh’s new student housing community available to North Carolina State University, Meredith College, Peace College, Shaw University, St. Augustine’s University, Campbell University – School of Law & Wake Tech students. It is central and walkable to campus.
Stanhope Commons is a 3.5-acre, mixed-use student housing project supporting Raleigh’s university population. The project includes a 985-bed, 10 story high rise and garaged parking for 900 vehicles.
AMT designed the site civil engineering. This included everything from stormwater management and erosion control to roadway and signal design. We coordinated with Progress Energy, Time Warner, AT&T and North Carolina Railroad for the utility work.
The drainage outfall at the site is the ending point of a 60-acre drainage shed. We custom-designed a new 18-foot head wall that is 18 feet at its highest point, and a 72-inch drainpipe to accommodate future growth. The wall was designed with a cut off footer that was creatively designed to cantilever onto university and student that did not extend the right of way which abuts the right of way for the railroad next door.
The site design reduced the impervious area by more than 10 percent which, in turn, reduced the storm water runoff by 10 percent.
