VDGIF Briery Creek Wildlife Management Area Vegetation Management Plan, Prince Edward County, VA
AMT provided turn-key environmental services for several different areas of this 3,000+ acre state game property. The vegetation management plan for the auxiliary spillway of Briery Creek Lake was integral to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries administration of the popular 845-acre lake. Over the course of 30+ years, invasive native and exotic species colonized the healthy freshwater palustrine emergent wetland. The woody species presented a hazard to the function and safety of the auxiliary spillway and required removal.
A wetland delineation and USACoE confirmation were secured for the work within the spillway area. A detailed invasive plant survey was undertaken. Native and exotic species were deemed to be invasive within the auxiliary spillway. Detailed specifications were drafted and the initial application and physical removal of invasive vegetation has been successful. Additional evaluation is required in successive growing seasons to determine if further treatment is required.
