Route 360 Bridges Richmond County Wins ACEC Virginia Merit Award
Company News | February 2, 2023
AMT provided CEI services through a District-Wide On-Call Contract on this $7.7 million project. The Route 360 Bridges over Route 360 Business and the Norfolk Southern Railroad in Amelia County, Virginia were completed on June 20, 2022. The inability to source the expected lightweight fill for the Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) retaining walls led to the substitution of Low-Density Cellular Concrete (LDCC referred to onsite as foamed concrete) utilized as the MSE wall backfill for the first time in Virginia. The new bridges have two 12-foot-wide lanes with 4-foot-wide shoulders. The replacement bridges consist of Grade 50W continuous steel plate girders with integral abutments with foundations supported by friction piles. Utilization of stainless-steel rebar in the decks and parapets and MMFX pier cap and column rebar are all covered in new concrete that is designed to last 100 years. The completed project has provided drivers with a 32-foot-wide clear roadway with enhanced visibility and safety. Congratulations to Frank Gunkelman, Abigail Mercaldo, Byron Coburn, PE, and the whole AMT Team on this award win!
