Stream Restoration

AMT offers a stream design team that can provide stream assessments, restoration and stabilization plans, as well as monitoring and evaluation of stream projects during and post-construction. AMT has completed more than 85 stream restoration designs and more than 200 stormwater pond retrofits. Specifically, our staff has completed more than 30 project reaches involving assessments and design work, including five (5) miles of built improvements within the past five (5) years. Based on lessons-learned in other communities, our success is proven by our and award-winning projects, creative and cost-effective solutions, and our repeat standing clients. In fact, our expertise assists clients in creating stable and attractive stream reaches that may maximize the pollutant removal benefits for MS4 permit compliance and overall water quality.

We closely work with more than 80 municipalities throughout the Chesapeake Bay Watershed to address their stormwater program goals, and to meet the TMDL/MS4 permit requirements. In fact, AMT key staff was involved in developing natural channel designs throughout the region.

The AMT team includes engineers certified Rosgen (I-IV) certified stream specialists that have performed stream restorations/stabilizations for miles of streams to improve water quality by reducing sediment erosion, and velocities. Controls utilized to prevent further incision, entrenchment and degradation of the stream channel and protect areas of high bank stress and velocity natural channel design techniques included: vegetative buffers; toe protection, cross/log vanes, step pools, log/rootwad/ boulder revetment, imbricated riprap, brush layering and mattresses, tiered wall/bench plantings, live fascine, live stakes and perennial herbaceous plants. Analysis included geomorphic assessment, bankfull determination, Hydrologic and Hydraulic modeling.
